NASA has reported new data about solar flares, obtained with the space probe Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). SDO space probe was launched on February 11, 2010, with the help of it, now planning to spend studying the Sun for five years. The new data could be obtained using the analysis of new pictures of the Sun in infrared and ultraviolet range. Preliminary analysis has already forced to reconsider a number of scientific theories about the nature of solar flares, the mechanisms of emergence and development as well as more accurately estimate the energy of solar flares.
