Valerian Kagan, leading a team of scientists from the University of Pittsburgh found antiradiation effect of the compounds oleic and stearic acids. As was shown in experiments on laboratory mice, the animals almost at full strength survived after receiving a lethal dose of radiation, if this mice were injected of the compound of oleic or stearic acid with imidazole. The therapeutic effect of these compounds was confirmed in mice, injected with a new compound after irradiation, in which case the number of surviving mice was increased. In the control group the same mice, that were not injected of new compound, were killed at least 80% of the mice. Scientists hope, that a new compound can be used for develop a new drug against radiation for humans.
