Scientists from McMaster University, Canada were able to reconstruct the genome of the pathogen of bubonic plague, better known under the name "Black Death" that wiped out millions of Europeans in the 13th and 14th centuries. Although the causative agent of bubonic plague Yersinia pestis was opened in 1894, but in 2010 it was found, that this is the bacterium responsible for plague in Europe. The scientists were able to restore the Yersinia pestis genome on the basis of specimens, which were found in the graves of plague in London. According to scientists, the reconstructed strain of the plague is the ancestor of all strains of the plague, which exist at present.
