Oceanographer from the Norwegian Polar Institute, told to Norwegian television channel NRK that the melting of ice in the Arctic is more rapid, than previously thought. New data were obtained using the new sonar, which measured the thickness of ice in the Arctic Ocean. In the measurement revealed, that nearly five times over the past 15 years has decreased the area of ice, whose thickness is greater than 5 meters. If this trend continues, the ice in the Arctic could melt within 10 years.
