The chief of police of the island state of Niue, Mark Chenery reported, that on Thursday in the sky over the island of
Niue was an explosion of unknown celestial body. At first, the islanders have thought about the explosion of one of
the vessels lying in the bay, but some people reported about bright white flash in the sky (see a photo).
Carter Observatory in New Zealand later reported, that above the island of Niue, at an altitude of 20 km
meteorite was exploded. Explosions of meteorites, falling at high speed into the atmosphere were recorded before,
but they do not cause damage, as completely destroyed in the atmosphere. However, the danger of such a meteorite,
in the event of an explosion over the territory of the nuclear countries, they can cause false alarms systems about
missile warning. Niue - is an island and state in free association with New Zealand, part of the British Commonwealth,
which is located in the South Pacific.
