Nature Geoscience reported, that Canadian scientists Neil Davies and Martin Gibling hypothesized, that the river banks in its present form could be formed only with the prevalence of plants with long and strong roots. As the scientists reported- while on Earth were not plants with long and strong roots - rivers in their present form, with a stable channel with steep banks were not on Eearth. In the past, in the absence of plants, river channels on Earth are constantly changing due to the fact, that the river banks have been strengthened by plants, and so, in fact, there were no rivers in the plains in its present form, and there were broad river valley with a constantly changing basic channel. But with the advent of plants with long and strong roots on the banks of rivers, river banks have become stronger and the water could not have changed so much its direction of flow, because of what occurred and with steep banks of the river in its present form. The flora in turn, also got the advantage of stable river channels - in the form of permanent access to water and the possible extension of plant seeds for long distances downstream.
