China is developing a new satellite to predict of earthquakes
China's first test satellite to detect electromagnetic anomalies from space scheduled for launch in 2016 that will improve earthquake monitoring network in the country and bring the seismological science to a new level.According to the organizer satellite project Yuan Shigeng, spacecraft , which is scheduled to be polar orbit will be equipped with eight payload instruments , in particular, a magnetometer to search for oil fields , electric field sensors , devices detect energetic particles , developed by engineers from China and Italy , as well as device and analyzer Langmiur plasma. It is planned that the satellite will collect and transmit data via electromagnetic signals in the ionosphere of the Earth at an altitude of 507 km .Reported that the lifetime of the satellite being developed is designed for 5 years. Project organizers hope that this time the spacecraft will provide data of Chinese scientists in monitoring earthquakes , earth sciences and space research. The main "client" of the satellite will be China earthquake Administration (China earthquake Administration). According to Shen Xuhui of CEA, specializing in earthquakes , especially satellite detection involve large-scale , highly dynamic, all-weather capability , which will be extremely important for the functioning of the monitoring network of the Earth.Scientists hope that any significant breakthrough in the research will help them a lot better investigate the specificity of the earthquake , and this in turn will save hundreds of lives.According to Shen Xuhui, through the data, he and his colleagues from CEA, try to understand what natural "warnings" , in addition to changes in electromagnetic signals may indicate an approaching earthquake.China last year experienced 43 earthquakes of magnitude 5 points , twice surpassing the annual figures for the last three decades , which claimed thoUSAnds of lives .The earthquake is a sudden release of energy caused by sliding of the crust along the fault line that results in a change in fluorescence , infrared and magnetic signals. It should be noted that changes in the signals observed long before the earthquake. To implement the project , China began in 2003. Test satellite is currently at the preliminary design stage . Shen Xuhui was involved in the project from the outset.According Xuhui, among a plurality of signals which nature prevents the occurrence of the earthquake , it was decided to focus on the magnetic, because China is technically and economically ready to undertake such research . Roberto Battiston of the University of Trento ( Italy ) said that the study of the magnetic and electric fields - it is a wise choice for a science of earthquakes .Over the past 30 years, various studies have demonstrated the link between seismic activity and " precipitation " of the energy of the electrons trapped in the Van Allen radiation belts , said Battiston. Studies have concluded that the strong seismic activity often causes electromagnetic anomalies in the Earth's atmosphere , ionosphere and magnetosphere it , allowing you to monitor and predict earthquakes .According Battiston, cooperation between China and Italy " extremely effective " and he is looking forward to the first data from the satellite electromagnetic China.Chinese seismologists and cooperated with other countries , including France, Russia and UKraine , which have achieved significant success in the Diet - electromagnetic studies.earthquake - a global phenomenon , and the development of methods to mitigate their destructive effects depends largely on the effectiveness of international cooperation .After the launch of the satellite , scheduled for 2016 , China will join the group of countries with their own earthquake monitoring satellites that will enhance international cooperation in this area.Dimitar Ouzounov from Chapman University ( Calif. ) , which is quite appreciated the project , said that the launch of the satellite test would provide an excellent opportunity to promote an integrated system of space-ground monitoring of earthquakes in China.According to him, China's satellite mission can become a focal point for future international cooperation of many scientists in the field of space physics , electromagnetic monitoring , development of satellite techniques for monitoring and preventing earthquakes.
