In «Journal of Optics» appeared an article of a group of scientists from the University of Southampton, UK, under the leadership of former Russian scientist Nikolay Zheludev, that they were able to develop a completely new technology to change the color of non-ferrous metals, including gold. According to Nikolay Zheludev, the new technology allows to change the micro-and nanostructure of the surface of the base metal, including gold, in such a way, that the metal acquires a color, which it have not in its natural state, with no use of any impurities and dyes, such as gold can make red, blue, green or any other colors, depending of the nanostructure of the surface (see the video). Although earlier an U.S. researchers used similar technology to change the color of the metal, but the technique of Nikolay Zheludev is a more feasible. According to Nikolay Zheludev, the first stage of processing of the gold surface include in modeling of the desired microstructure of the surface, which involves the creation of the surface of a gold ingot recurring rings with a diameter of about 100 nanometers, then the surface of the gold bar bombard a specifically focused stream of high-energy ions, which are form the final nanostructure surface of gold, which reflects the incident light so, that the gold bar appears as red, white, green, etc., THE VIDEO:
