Opened a museum in Ancient Olympia Archimedes
A museum dedicated to the great scientist Archimedes of Syracuse, opened on Sunday in Ancient Olympia. Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity not only to see replicas of inventions, but also to test them in practice.
Archimedes created almost two millennia before Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo and Newton laid the foundations of the invention of technological breakthroughs of the future. Their demonstration proves that Archimedes many centuries ahead of his time.
Mastermind of the museum is an electrical engineer Costas Kotsanas, who previously created the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology in Katakolo (Peloponnese). He was able to make copies of Archimedes' inventions and submit them on two floors allocated for this purpose by the municipality of Ancient Olympia. On the ground floor of the new museum exhibits 24 inventions of Archimedes.
Among the exhibits - hydraulic (Archimedes) screw, mechanical planetarium, winch gears, diopter, odometer, dromometr, hydrometer, mechanical and hydraulic paradox, development control of the purity of gold, burning mirrors, giant cranes, military vehicles and others.
On the second floor of the museum also has 24 other mechanical inventions inventors who lived and worked in the time of Archimedes. Visitors will have the opportunity to see up close, "cinema" and "robot maid" Philo, very accurate automatic hydraulic (water) clock, water organ (gidravlos) and two-cylinder piston pump Ktesibiya, catapult of Dionysius. The museum is interactive and allows visitors to use the exhibits to see at first hand how they work beyond a mere reading of the historical information.
