The test facility Chemical Automatics Design Bureau for the first time, a series of fire tests of the high ion electric propulsion joint development KBKhA and the Moscow Aviation Institute. The tests were successfully carried out on a special stand vacuum. Works with the engine will continue.
Earlier, on December 14 at the Research Institute of Applied Mechanics and Electrodynamics of Moscow Aviation Institute also successfully completed a series of fire tests of the same high-frequency ion electric propulsion joint development. They confirmed that the motor parameters correspond to the characteristics laid down in the specifications.
The engine, which is fully called "high-ion electric propulsion," was tested on a special vacuum bench simulating the conditions of outer space.

The fact that this unit is not designed to operate under. This is not a booster engine, and marching. And its design is very different from the usual we had rocket motors.

The motor is powered by a jet of ionized gas, broken up by an electromagnetic field. This powerplant has little traction in comparison with the liquid rocket engine, but its advantage - a long service life. And this is a serious bid for flights beyond the Earth's orbit.

Planned and other use of electric propulsion. They can be used for the correction and stabilization of the working orbit satellites as well as the transfer from low to high orbits.

Since the engine is more economical at such indicators as fuel, some groups of satellites (all realized what was going on) may change the orbit more than once over a fairly long period of time. We have in the national economy such satellites, which would have such an option would have been more than helpful.

There are, however, and a small minus. This is significantly more energy. Magnetic camera requires its own. But, as assured KBKhA, this aspect has been properly resolved at the design stage.

So our competitors for space exploration are not waiting for a nice (for us, of course) a surprise.

We heartily congratulate the teams and the MAI KBKhA that in such a short period of time (3 years) embodied in the idea of the metal engine. And I hope that the rest of the tests are no less successful.

Of course, this setting will show (if the show) is still very long. It's clear. But nonetheless, may become slightly closer star to us. And doubly pleased that this is our development and our performance.
