Obtaining S1 and S2 family visas and residence permits in China

The article discusses an independent, without the help of intermediaries, the procedure for obtaining and a list of documents for the so-called "family visas" of categories S1 and S2, as well as for obtaining residence permits in China on the basis of "family reunification", since visas are issued only outside China by the consulates of the PRC, and in China, residence permits are issued, although many foreigners incorrectly call them also visas.

 

Please note that in accordance with the Law of the People's Republic of China "On Departure-Entry", the Departments of Exit-Entry of the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China (also called "migration" by foreigners at the household level) have the right to require additional documents from foreigners other than those specified in this article. , so always check the full list of documents directly with the PRC public security authorities in your city.

 

VISA S1

Long-term visit to China (visa period usually exceeds 180 days, medical examination is required) to visit relatives of spouses, parents, children under 18, parents of spouses and other individuals of foreigners living in China for work, study, etc., who needs to live in China

 

VISA S2

Family members (spouse, parents, children, spouses of children, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, grandchildren and spouse's parents) and those who need to stay in China on other private business for up to 180 days.

 

 

S1 VISA APPLICATION

Families of foreigners who come to work in China (parents-in-laws-wife-children) apply for a residence permit for foreign family members.

 

1. Original valid passports of family members

2. Original registration of temporary residence

3. Two recent 2-inch frontal and family member photos (4.5 cm × 3.5 cm).

4. Original health certificate

5. Original passport of the employed person

6. Letter of application issued by the hired person's company

7. Business license

8, Documents confirming the relationship (for example, marriage certificates, birth certificates and other legal evidence of family relationships)

 

special note:

- if the certificate of family relations is issued abroad, it must be legalized by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate abroad (valid for 6 months) or certified by the consulate of your country in China (valid for 6 months).

 

The first application (from 16 to 60 years old) must be submitted in person. If the original residence permit is renewed within 3 months after the expiration of the original residence permit, a health certificate is not required.

 

S2 VISA APPLICATION

Family members of foreigners who come to China for short-term visits to work and apply for a short-term stay of 3-6 months (S2 visa)

 

1. Original valid passport (visa must be within the validity period)

2. Original registration of temporary residence

3. Two recent 2-inch frontal photos of family members (4.5 cm × 3.5 cm)

4. Original passport of the employed person

5. Original letter of application

6. Business license

7. Original family relationship certificate (eg marriage certificate, birth certificate and other legal proof of family relationship).

 

Special Reminder:

1. Family members are: spouse (s) of an employee, parents (mother-in-law), children, spouses of children, brothers and sisters, grandparents (on the maternal side), grandchildren (on the maternal side)

2. If the family relationship certificate is issued abroad, it must be legalized by the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad (valid for 6 months) or certified by the consulate of your country in China (valid for 6 months)
