New safety helmet U.S. Army soldier looks like a Darth Vader mask - VIDEO Sunday, 25 May 2014 14:00
Edgewood Center for biochemical studies of the U.S. Army (ECBC) has developed a new combination of the helmet and respirator, that will protect soldiers from chemical, biological and radiological threats. The system, which looks very similar to Darth Vader helmets and Master Chief from Halo, uses built-in fans for cooling the face of a soldier and to maintain the integrity of the mask. New helmet is based on the commercial version of the filter mask Avon M50, which is used by the U.S. Army. It connects to a belt or backpack hidden in the battery and the fan on the side of the mask blows air into the nose cup to air flow during inspiration was constant. When the user exhales, the valve closes and the air is directed to the area around the eye, creating a positive pressure in the front part, which prevents contamination of the atmosphere inside, if the mask leaks will be broken. Respiratory protection unit ECBC to develop and test a new helmet for the past year. According to army reports, the mask was more comfortable, and at least as effective as the models, that are used by the military at the moment. The team is now working on further improvements of the system - such as sensors that detect when you need to turn on the fans, and where to direct an airflow, VIDEO:
