Major transaction India 126 French Rafale fighter was at an impasse. Now, India intends to sign a major contract with Russia for the joint development of low-profile fighter 5th generation (Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft).

India expects to receive the first aircraft 36 months after the signing of the main contract, rather than through the 94 months, as previously envisaged, writes The Times of India.

At the same time due to tight deadlines India is ready to abandon the original plan, which provides for equal participation in the design and development, as well as to all aircraft built India's Hindustan Aeronautics.

"We have agreed on a smaller stake in the works for a pragmatic contract by which the initial batch will be imported and the rest will be created here on the program of technology transfer," - said a senior source in the Ministry of Defence of India.

India intends to accelerate the project against the backdrop of a sharp reduction in the number of fighters. The basis for the "long-term multi-role fighter" will take a Russian fighter jet T-50 created by the Sukhoi Design Bureau in the framework of the PAK FA, and modify it in accordance with the requirements of India.

It is worth noting that Russia and India have extensive experience in the field of military-technical cooperation: more than 70% of military equipment, weapons of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force of the Soviet and Russian production.
