Regatta Volvo Ocean Race starts the first time in 1973 in the UK under the name of Whitbread Round the World Race. Since 1997, the regatta is named Volvo Ocean Race and is held every four years ( since 2005 - once in 3 years), one of the five largest sporting events in the world and is one of the most spectacular and exciting races on the planet.
Route Round the World Race Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12 will run through 10 cities and 6 continents . Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12 will start in October 2011 from Alicante (Spain) and finishes at 9 months in Galway (Ireland).
Participants Round the World Race Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12 will visit the following cities: Alicante ( Spain) , Cape Town (South Africa), Abu Dhabi ( UAE), Sanya ( China) , Auckland (New Zealand ), Itajaí ( Brazil) , Miami (USA), Lisbon ( Portugal ) , Lorian (France) and finish in Galway (Ireland ) .
