The number of international tourists to Haikou, Hainan, China in July 2018 increased by more than 40% compared with 2017

From January to July 2018, the number of international air passengers of the Haikou-Meilan International Airport amounted to 622 thousand people, an increase of 26.02% compared to the same period in 2017, and Haikou was visited by 199.9 thousand international tourists, an increase of year on year by 42.12%.

In the practice of creating a free trade pilot zone and a free trade port with Chinese characteristics, Hainan must constantly deepen its economic and trade cultural exchanges with the rest of the world, and the opening of international routes is the main work and serves as a bridge, so Haikou opened five foreign routes to Sydney, Australia, Moscow, Manila, Indonesia, Surabaya and Nha Trang, Vietnam. This year there are currently 22 foreign air routes operating.

According to Wu Fang, vice president of Hainan United Airlines Travel Group Co., Ltd., the exact policy of subsidizing civil aviation in Haikou is an important reason for increasing the number of foreign tourists. The Haikou subsidy policy is divided into two aspects: the newly opened foreign grant for direct flights and the subsidy for entry and exit abroad, which is put into effect.

Chen Dongze, Director for Development of Meilan Airport, said that since May 1, 2018 visa-free policies had been officially implemented, by August 23, 2018, Haikou Meilan Airport received 21,800 visa-free tourists, an increase of 297 compared to the same period last year.

In the second half of 2018, the number of flights from Singapore and Hong Kong, China will increase, and it is planned to open 13 routes, including St. Petersburg, Almaty, Berlin, Melbourne, Ho Chi Minh City, etc.
