China again denied Russia the opening of the Pokrovka-Zhaohe border crossing in the Khabarovsk Territory

Russian media reported that China again denied Russia the opening of the Pokrovka-Zhaohe border crossing in the Khabarovsk Territory, as the Chinese side insists on the exclusion of contacts between people due to the coronavirus.

As reported, in the Khabarovsk Territory, the Pokrovka-Zhaohe checkpoint in the Bikinsky district is almost ready for the long-awaited opening, which has not been functioning since 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic began. All this time, cargoes go across the border through the border crossings of Primorye, along the Amur.

The Russian media have already talked many times about the plans of the Chinese side to resume the work of the Pokrovka-Zhaohe checkpoint. However, every time the next commission found shortcomings in the anti-virus protection and put the opening “on a stop”.

"A meeting of the coordinating council was held the day before. The People's Republic of China confirmed its readiness to resume cargo transportation at the Pokrovka-Zhaohe checkpoints using barges and a ferry crossing with loading a car along with a driver on the Russian side, that is, Chinese vehicles will not cross the border of the Russian Federation," reported today in the press service of the Rosselkhoznadzor administration for the Khabarovsk Territory, the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Magadan Region.

This information was confirmed in the Khabarovsk customs. After the coordination council held on Thursday, July 14, there were even hopes that the work of the checkpoint would begin on Friday. However, so far there is the same silence as it has been for the past two years. The Chinese side puts forward a demand that contacts between people of the two countries at the border be completely excluded, but then it is not clear how to carry out a passport control.
