Tesla opens its first showroom in Haikou, Hainan, China

Tesla Motors Sales Service (Haikou) Co., Ltd. was founded on September 22, 2020. The company has a registered capital of US $ 1 million, and its legal representative is XIAOTONG ZHU (Zhu Xiaotong, President of Tesla China). The company's scope of activity includes: the sale of new energy vehicles; distribution of used cars; centralized fast charging stations; operations with electric vehicle charging infrastructure; repair and maintenance of cars; conference and exhibition services; retail sale of auto parts, etc.


Although Tesla had already built 5 super-charging stations and 19 charging points at destinations in Hainan, it had no offline stores or showrooms. With the establishment of Tesla Motors Sales Service (Haikou) Co., Ltd., Tesla also officially opened its first exhibition site in Longhua, Haikou.


It is reported to be the first exhibition and test site officially opened by Tesla China in Hainan, and it has been selected in the Longhua District of Haikou City. This time, the cars on display include the latest models such as Model X with the most advanced technology and Model 3, which is the best seller in the domestic and overseas markets.


Tesla also recently founded its first sales and service company in Kunming, Yunnan, which is also 100% owned by Tesla Motors Hong Kong. Earlier in Southwest China, Tesla only opened offline stores and showrooms in Sichuan and Chongqing.


Tesla has now become the most popular brand of new energy vehicles in China. Tesla Model 3 sales in China totaled 11,811 units in August this year, ranking first in domestic sales of new energy passenger cars, according to figures released by the Joint Passenger Car Market Information Conference (hereinafter referred to as the "Chenglian Association").


However, Dasouche Zhiyun, a third-party data service platform for the automotive industry, released its "August 2020 Light Vehicle Retail Sales Analysis Report," which says that while Tesla's August sales in China continued to exceed 10,000, it is GM Wuling and BYD joined forces, and Model 3 sales in August fell short of expectations from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.


Tesla's Shanghai plant has hit 4,000 vehicles a week since June this year (16,000 monthly production capacity), but the current end of sales has not reached the expected deficit state.


The reason Tesla set up a sales and service company in Hainan this time is that last March, Hainan published the "Green Energy Vehicle Development Plan in Hainan Province", becoming the first province in the country to propose a "sales ban schedule. Fuels ”by 2030 and a roadmap for clean energy vehicles in all segments.


In April of this year, Hainan again initiated the implementation of a temporary new energy vehicle consumption incentive policy with a reward of RMB 10,000 for each new energy vehicle purchase. As of September of this year, Hainan has promoted a total of 45,000 new energy vehicles, and the share of new energy vehicles increased from 0.78% in 2016 to 3.1%, about 1.5% higher than the national average.
