The world's first deep-sea semi-submersible platform "Deep Sea 1" will begin gas production near Hainan Island, China

China National Offshore Petroleum Corporation announced that the world's first 100,000 tonne deepwater semi-submersible gas production and storage platform, Deep Sea One, which was independently developed and built in China, has successfully arrived in the Lingshui region, southeast of the island of Hainan, and settled in the gas field "Deep Sea No. 1" (Lingshui 17-2).

Semi-submersible platform "Deep Sea 1" "Deep Sea No. 1 ”was built and commissioned on January 14, 2021, then she left Yantai, Shandong, and crossed the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, and finally arrived at the planned location in the waters of Lingshou.

Liu Kongzhong, CNOOC Deputy General Manager for Lingshui 17-2 Project, said that for the first time in China, the 53,000-ton deep-water semi-submersible oil and gas equipment has been towed in complex and variable sea conditions and towing range.

To ensure the safety of towing, CNOOC has established a professional towing team made up of senior domestic experts, established a joint emergency support system on land and at sea, repeatedly examined and demonstrated towing plans, identified and eliminated potential risks one by one, and took action.

Xie Weiwei, head of the towing section of the Deep Sea No. 1 reported that the top of the power plant swung up to 8 meters during towing due to the sea surge. At the same time, under the influence of cold air, the sea wind once reached level 9. In the face of extreme problems, the towing group was on standby 24 hours a day to maintain stable running status of the platform by adjusting the platform draft.

Lingshui 17-2 is China's first autonomous deep-water large gas field with a length of 1,500 meters with proven geological reserves of more than 100 billion cubic meters, located 150 kilometers from the Hainan Island. Once the gas field is commissioned, it will provide a stable supply of 3 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Guangdong, Hong Kong and elsewhere.
